Built for Better Growth

A successful vertical garden depends on more than the plants you see on the surface. The structure, pot size, growing media, plant selection, irrigation and preparation all play an important role in how the garden looks on day one and how it performs over time.

Our gardens are created using an individual potted system developed through years of practical experience. From locally made components, to our own growing media and dedicated greenhouse, each element is designed to support healthier plants and a more reliable end result.

Local Manufacturing

Our patented pots and framing mesh are manufactured locally in Melbourne. Keeping these components close to home allows us to maintain control over quality, consistency and supply, while ensuring the system is suited to Australian conditions.

VGA’s pots are larger than the market average, giving plants more room for root development. This additional growing space helps support stronger plant health, better establishment and a more stable garden over time.

Premium Growing Media

The growing media used in a vertical garden has a direct impact on plant health. It needs to hold enough moisture to support the plants, while still allowing for drainage, aeration and healthy root growth.

We use our own media mix, developed specifically for our vertical garden system. This helps create a balanced growing environment for the plants and supports the long-term performance of the garden.

Greenhouse Preparation

One of the key differences in our process is our own greenhouse where plants are pre-matured in their final pots for around three months before installation. This gives each plant time to establish properly before arriving on site. It reduces transplant shock, supports healthier root growth and allows our gardens to look fuller and more established from day one.

Plant Selection

Not every plant is suited to thrive in a vertical garden. Plant choice needs to consider light, exposure, growth habits and the conditions of the specific site.

Over time, we have refined our plant selection to proven varieties that perform well in vertical garden environments. Each project is considered individually, with plants selected and positioned to suit the location, the desired look and the conditions they will be growing in.

Irrigation

A vertical garden needs the right watering program to perform. Irrigation requirements can change depending on the plant selection, site conditions and season, which is why the watering approach needs to be planned as part of the garden from the beginning.

Our gardens are installed with customised irrigation and app-based control, making it easier to manage requirements across the year.

Our Expertise, Your Garden

By managing the key parts of the system in house, we deliver a more consistent and reliable result. The pots and framing are locally made, the media mix is perfectly developed, the plants are carefully prepared and ongoing care is available after the garden is complete.

For our clients, this means a vertical garden that has been properly built, prepared and supported. The result is a fuller, healthier green feature with the care behind it to perform well over time.

Jamie, Alex and Theo from The Vertical Gardens Australia were an absolute pleasure to work with. They were friendly, attentive and professional from start to finish, making the entire process seamless. Our atrium has been transformed into a lush oasis, and we absolutely love spending time in this beautiful space now. We would highly recommend VGA to anyone looking to turn an ordinary & boring area into a spectacular sanctuary. Thank you!
Sammi Stone
From first contact and then meeting with Goldie ( who is fabulous) through to every team member it was a fantastic experience. I have been looking for a green wall solution for years, but nothing was what I wanted. It has transformed out outdoor area and is such a user friendly system. I could not recommend Vertical Gardens Australia enough. Wonderful product and staff, thank you doesn’t seem enough. We will absolutely be recommending VGA to anyone looking for a garden solution. Thank you 💜
Suzy Westcott
Thank you to the wonderful team at Vertical Gardens!
Couldn’t be happier with my new vertical garden! Transforming my balcony into a lush green oasis has been one of the best decisions.
Tiffany Borrelli
I was pleasantly surprised when my freestanding mini vertical garden arrived fully assembled; even the castors were attached. This is the first product I have purchased for the garden that required zero assembly. I have a very small space in my back garden that receives all day sun and this vertical garden is the perfect size to go up against an empty wall in the courtyard. The pots are simple to remove and re-attach and are a good size for annual herbs like coriander, basil, chives etc. I am very happy with my purchase and recommend it, particularly if you do not want to commit to a wall unit that needs to be mounted with screws.
Benjamin Gill
We had such a friendly experience with Goldie getting our garden sorted to our size and budget needs. The install and maintenance staff were so experienced and knowledgeable also. We love our vertical garden!

Just had John & Melissa put for our first vertical garden service. They were fantastic and fixed up the main show garden in our kitchen, now onto the other ones we were super impressed by their judgement when it comes to plant placement, and they were both really aware of the presentation side as well as the technical side.

Well done team!

Vertical Gardens Australia is an outstanding business from every perspective - I can highly recommend the service that Jamie, Daniel, Chris, Andy and Amanda provide.
Having moved to Melbourne for work from a very beautiful rural setting in the Adelaide Hills, I was really struggling to adapt to apartment living in Melbourne. Jamie and the team created a stunning vertical garden that totally transformed the bland balcony area with a depressing outlook into a space that is a joy to be in. Not only did it transform the physical space, it transformed my whole attitude towards apartment living. For me, this was cathartic.
My gratitude is profound. Thank you to all at Vertical Gardens Australia. You are amazing!!
Julie-Anne Toohey

LEAFTSTREAM™

LEAFSTREAM™ is a 60% Privacy/ Blockout Design. Its flowing organic form is reminiscient of flowing water, leaves or indigenous textures like string fish nets. It creates beautiful shadow effects in natural light and is a perfect compliment to a garden. Compared to our other patterns its very light and open, and is brilliant for ambient visual effects as a suggestive divider, some wall art or vertical interest or even as an internal feature.

MAHJONG™

MAHJONG™ is one of our 60% privacy/ blockout range. It’s simple rectangular geometry creates a visual language can be drawn to oriental, artdeco or 60s geomtry. It’s more open and lighter than the 80 or 90%+ designs, so is very effective as partial partitioning within a space, or as a dramatic effect on a wall or fence.

BUNGALOW™

Bungalow™ is a popular choose in our 80% privacy/ blockout range. It’s lineal but organic langauge has a very strong tie to the natural landscape and can compliment, yet soften vertical structure within a landscape. At 80% privacy/ blockout it is perfect for boundary screening on a fence or wall, great for walling feature and many other applications.

WOOLOOMAI™

WOOLOOMAI™ is an already popular new edition to our existing 80% privacy/ blockout range. It’s loose wavey nature dances across the surface, evocative of the ocean, an iconic aussie beach theme, river rapids or (in portrait orientation), folage. Its 80% privacy/ blockout makes it suitable and compliant for most common "boundary fence" scenarios, at height barriers and a plethora of other applications.

MARAKESH™

MARAKESH™ is a popular classic. Its geometry is influenced by Morrocan patterns, but its simple organic treatment is reminiscent of interwoven branches and marries with mid-20th century architectural screening which continues to resurge in contemporary design. Its 80% privacy/ blockout makes it suitable for the common "boundary fence" scenario and a plethora of other applications.

LANTERN™

LANTERN™ is a popular choose in our 80% privacy/ blockout range. It’s traditional geometry has a Moroccan chic to it, but it is also in keeping with period architecture and modern. At 80% privacy/ blockout it is perfect for boundary screening on a fence or wall, great for walling feature and many other applications.

HERRINGBONE™

HERRINGBONE™ is our unique play on an architectural pattern that is both contemporary and classic. The geometry is super simple, but with a zig-zaggy twist that will breakup large imposing rectangular surfaces, and offer a complimentary effect to foliage.

NEST™

NEST™ is a part of our 80% privacy/ blockout range and is the opposed of geometric. Inspired by the tangled mass of bird’s nest, tangled undergrowth or tribal rattan weaving the pattern is a simple organic textural backdrop to blend into your outdoor space. It also lends itself to an oriental theme.

OSAKA™

OSAKA™ is from our original 80% privacy/ blockout range. It’s traditional geometry has a Japanese influence (without being obviously ‘oriental’ in theme). It is also reminiscent of 60s geomteric styling which is very current. At 80% privacy/ blockout it is perfect for boundary screening on a fence or wall, great for walling feature and many other applications.

ORCHARD™

ORCHARD™ is part of the new 90%+ range. It’s lineal langauge and folage based details, make it a simple organic style, that is soft and complimentary to many architectural styles and a perfect backdrop to garden folage. The privacy or blockout is almost total, making it a perfect solution for high privacy or cladding type applications like cladding planters, bench/ storage boxes, retainers etc.

STAR ANAIS™

STAR ANAIS™ is one of our new 90%+ privacy/ blockout range. It’s simple but striking geometry is reminiscient of Japanese or islamic motifs, but simplified to 60s style modernism. At 90%+ privacy/ blockout it creates a unique new alternative to high privacy screening like timber slats, but with a whole new visual language.Showcased in Australia Garden Show Silver Medal Garden.

GONDWANA™

GONDWANA™ is inspired by Australian old-growth rainforest, the linework is indicative of a cascading waterfall, layered bark of a giant tree trunk, or the patterning of undergrowth foliage. 90%+ privacy offers screening on-par with traditional timber slats, but with a fluid organic language that creates a softening backdrop to your outdoor living space.
