Your Guide to Vertical Greenery

Frequently Asked Questions

In Sydney’s climate, plants like ferns, succulents, native Australian species, and hardy herbs thrive in vertical gardens. These plants are well-adapted to the local weather conditions, requiring minimal maintenance and providing year-round greenery.

Yes, a vertical garden can be installed on various surfaces, including brick, concrete, and wood. The key is ensuring the wall’s structural integrity and using the right mounting system for the specific wall type.

A well-maintained vertical garden in Sydney can last for many years. Lifespan depends on factors like plant choice, maintenance, and environmental conditions, but with proper care, expect a thriving garden for at least 5-10 years.

Vertical gardens are excellent as privacy screens in Sydney residences. They not only provide seclusion but also add aesthetic appeal and a natural element to urban living spaces.

The cost varies based on size, plant types, and system complexity. In Sydney, a basic vertical garden installation can start from a few hundred dollars, escalating for larger or more intricate designs.

Generally, small-scale vertical gardens don’t require permissions. However, for larger installations or those on shared or heritage buildings, we suggest checking with local councils for any specific regulations or required approvals.

Why us

What we do

Consultation

An assessment of site context, aspect, light, surrounding elements and access are all considered through site inspections or plan reviews. From analysis of these requirements, site specific recommendations can be made.

Manufacture

A collaboration with architects, landscape architects and interior designers to bring their visions to reality. A full design service is provided beginning with a schematic design including concept sketches and renderings.

Grow

After a schematic design is finalised, engineer certified construction drawings, plant selection and planting designs are completed. Planting designs are modelled to include any client input.

Installation

Includes onsite and offsite periods. A plant establishment period in our nursery is provided to ensure developed plant growth upon installation. Our construction team has extensive experience in the building industry and landscape construction industry.

Maintenance

Our maintenance service is optional and guarantees that garden units remain healthy and visually striking for years to come. The service includes foliage detailing, sustaining plant growth, maintaining nutrients, pest and disease control, as well as checking irrigation and lighting components.

From first contact and then meeting with Goldie ( who is fabulous) through to every team member it was a fantastic experience. I have been looking for a green wall solution for years, but nothing was what I wanted. It has transformed out outdoor area and is such a user friendly system. I could not recommend Vertical Gardens Australia enough. Wonderful product and staff, thank you doesn’t seem enough. We will absolutely be recommending VGA to anyone looking for a garden solution. Thank you 💜

Thank you to the wonderful team at Vertical Gardens!
Couldn’t be happier with my new vertical garden! Transforming my balcony into a lush green oasis has been one of the best decisions.
Tiffany Borrelli
I was pleasantly surprised when my freestanding mini vertical garden arrived fully assembled; even the castors were attached. This is the first product I have purchased for the garden that required zero assembly. I have a very small space in my back garden that receives all day sun and this vertical garden is the perfect size to go up against an empty wall in the courtyard. The pots are simple to remove and re-attach and are a good size for annual herbs like coriander, basil, chives etc. I am very happy with my purchase and recommend it, particularly if you do not want to commit to a wall unit that needs to be mounted with screws.
Benjamin Gill
We had such a friendly experience with Goldie getting our garden sorted to our size and budget needs. The install and maintenance staff were so experienced and knowledgeable also. We love our vertical garden!

We have a fairly small courtyard area in our new town home and so were looking for a garden solution where we didn't have to sacrifice any space. VGA have provided the perfect outcome and we are very happy with the dramatic improvement to what was previously a just drab brick wall. Goldie the design consultant was helpful, informative and responsive throughout the process and the delivery and installation of the garden couldn't have been smoother. Highly recommended.

Just had John & Melissa put for our first vertical garden service. They were fantastic and fixed up the main show garden in our kitchen, now onto the other ones we were super impressed by their judgement when it comes to plant placement, and they were both really aware of the presentation side as well as the technical side.

Well done team!

Vertical Gardens Australia is an outstanding business from every perspective - I can highly recommend the service that Jamie, Daniel, Chris, Andy and Amanda provide.
Having moved to Melbourne for work from a very beautiful rural setting in the Adelaide Hills, I was really struggling to adapt to apartment living in Melbourne. Jamie and the team created a stunning vertical garden that totally transformed the bland balcony area with a depressing outlook into a space that is a joy to be in. Not only did it transform the physical space, it transformed my whole attitude towards apartment living. For me, this was cathartic.
My gratitude is profound. Thank you to all at Vertical Gardens Australia. You are amazing!!
